The Valley of Fire!

Today was our first day driving out of state. This was the first sign to greet us as we entered Nevada. Nice...

After speeding through Las Vegas (keeping our eyes in the car the whole time) we took a detour through the Valley of Fire. Once we left the freeway, the windows went down and sweet 72 degree breeze filled the car.

Not sure what's going on here...

The Valley of Fire was like one giant playground. Our first stop in the valley was the "beehives"; large beehive shaped sandstone formations with tons of fun places to hide.

Here is proof for a young earth in action. This sandstone wall formed so rapidly that poor Rach didn't have enough time to get away.

Then we loaded back up into the car and drove to the east end of the valley.

At first we were satisfied with staying on the trail.

Then we got a little bit more daring and ventured out into the street....

Rocks were climbed....

...and mountains were conquered!

At around 5:30 we pulled over, found an obliging rock and did our devotions with the Grandmas (on the phone). This experience was beyond words. The landscape was beautiful and the silence was only broken by a gentle breeze.

There we are "with" the grandmas.

Tomorrow we're off to Colorado!

  1. The Valley of Fire and 72 degree weather? It seems like there was a slight mistake in the naming process...

All the busy bees in the beehive. Question: Who's the queen?

Rachel! It seems like all the bad things happen to you. Falling off a cliff and getting trapped in sandstone. At least you survived and live to tell the tale :)

Do you always hike in bare feet Mr. Schroeder?

How can you come up with a caption to do justice to that picture? Simply amazing...

Hope you all are having a good time and we'll see you in a few days!

  3. Looks like you had fun. Caption for the photo.... it should be something from Space Odyssey. I will have to think about it. Love, Mrs.H
