Life has been good, as usual. This past week we have been working, gardening, and playing. This is our last week of Summer (before we start schooling), so we have been relaxing as much as possible (the reason we are starting schooling so early, by the way, is because we will be taking two weeks off over the next couple of months for vacations... we don't normally start this early). Here is Eve is preparing for schooling... every day she faithfully brings an apple to her teacher.

Now here is something you might not have known. Over the past year and a half Eva has been growing out her hair for "Locks of Love", an organization devoted to providing hairpieces to children undergoing medical hair loss treatments. After several weeks of knotty hair due to swimming excursions, Eva decided that the time had come.

Mom braided the locks and prepared the utensils, while I snapped a quick photo of the brave girl.

(hold your breath!)

The deed is done, and the hair that was left was just as cute as the stuff we cut off!

Too grown up!

The final product was a 10" long braid which will hopefully serve some child well.

These last months of summer have been particularly beautiful, especially in the evenings. It has become a habit of ours after dinner to clean up and then go for a walk. Last night we took one such stroll. Eva and Rach. enjoy taking the scooters and rolling along instead.

Rachel looks like she is truly enjoying herself... Eva looks like a villain, up to no good!

Awww...how precious! Yes, Dad is barefoot; he was born with leather-like moccasin feet

The wind was warm and luscious! The sun was redder than normal (I will explain in a minute), and the temp. was in the low 80's at 7:30... it was quite a comfortable evening.

Mom and Dad taking a breather...

We conquered the country walk and made it all the way to the canal (our usual loop, about 2 miles round trip... we walk slowly). I'm not sure about the poses...

Yes, I really was there, and I did enjoy myself! See the smoke in the background....

Welcome to California! Where a windy day in summer means somebody will have to evacuate their house! It made for a beautiful sunset, but the air quality was not very desirable. Go fight that fire Mr. Hector... we want to breathe again! (this fire is about 50 miles away from us, as the crow flies, but this smoke may even float as far as Nevada).

And here is another apple picture... who could resist?!

Such a brave girl...10 inches is quite a bit of hair! Don't know that I could ever do that! BTW, Eva's new hair style is dahlin'!
